Steve Curtis enters his third season in his second stint at Mississippi State as an assistant women's basketball coach.
Curtis' primary responsibilities at MSU include assisting with game and practice preparations, recruiting, camps, coaches clinics and scheduling.
A 15-year coaching veteran, Curtis was an assistant coach at Texas A&M for the 2002-03 season. Curtis' coaching duties with the Aggies focused on scouting, game strategy, individual player development and recruiting. He served as the top assistant at Nebraska for four years from 1998-2002, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice and advancing to the semifinals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament two times.
Curtis was an assistant coach at Mississippi from 1991-97 before spending the 1997-98 season at Mississippi State as an assistant. After graduating from Mississippi in 1990, he served as the head coach at Clarke Junior College during the 1990-91 season.
Before completing his degree at Mississippi, Curtis spent several years as a professional golfer.
Overall, Curtis has been on the sidelines for eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet 16 bids and two Elite Eight showings, along with an SEC championship, while helping his teams to 206 victories. He has coached over 25 players who went on to play professionally including three first round draft picks, Tan White of the Indiana Fever (WNBA), Nicole Kubik of the Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA) and Sharon Thompson of the San Jose Lasers (American Basketball League).

A native of Gulfport, Miss., Curtis is married to the former Claire McMillan of Newton, Miss. The couple has a six-year-old son, John, and daughters, Mattie, who is four years old and three-year-old Katie. Curtis teaches a Sunday School class for third graders at First Baptist Church in Starkville.
