Diamond Dawgs Enjoy Successful Spring in Classroom

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Finding as much success in the classroom as they have on the field this spring, the No. 16 Mississippi State baseball team registered a composite 3.00 grade point average in the just-concluded spring semester. The spring marked the eighth-straight semester and the 10th time in 12 semesters under head coach John Cohen the team has produced at least a 3.00 GPA.
Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year candidate Seth Heck, right hander Preston Brown, lefty Glenn Irby and first baseman Dylan Ingram finished with perfect 4.00 GPAs to earn a spot on the President’s Scholar List. The quartet of southpaw Ross Mitchell, righty Trevor Fitts, second baseman Brett Pirtle and freshman Avery Geyer made the Dean’s Scholar List for tallying GPAs of 3.50 or higher. In all, 23 players recorded a GPA of 3.00 or better.
Current seniors Ben Bracewell and Alex Detz will graduate this month, along with former Diamond Dawgs Jet Butler (2007-10) and Ricky Bowen (2007-09). All four played in the NCAA College World Series in Omaha.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday night with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Alabama. The series opener can be seen on ESPN3.
