MSU Seeks Back-To-Back Wins At BancorpSouth Intercollegiate
Madison, Miss. – After a dramatic comeback victory at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, the Mississippi State men’s golf team will look to capture back-to-back tournaments as the Bulldogs head west for the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate.
The two day, three round event will pit the Maroon and White against 14 other squads at the par-72, 7,400 yard Reunion Golf and Country Club on April 14-15. Joining the Maroon and White on Monday will be Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Houston, Jackson State, Louisiana- Lafayette, Missouri-Kansas City, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Troy, UNC-Greensboro, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.
MSU is 15-3-1 against teams participating in this year’s BancorpSouth Intercollegiate.
“I know our guys are looking forward to defending our title from a year ago,” Coach Clay Homan said. “Our team is starting to get the kind of confidence you need in order to contend. It’s another great opportunity for us to play in our home state on a course we are familiar with.”
The Bulldogs return to Reunion hoping to duplicate last year’s performance, after dominating the field with a 15-stroke win. MSU turned in a season-low 18-under-par 846 in the victory.
The senior quartet of Chad Ramey, Barrett Edens, Joe Sakulpolphaisan and Axel Boasson will be featured on the Maroon and White scorecard this Monday, with sophomore Ben Wood rounding out the lineup.
For Edens, the trip to Madison will be the first since he captured co-medalist a week ago. The senior shot a 10-under-par for the final 36 holes, to become the third Bulldog (Ramey & Sakulpolphaisan) this season to finish with at least a share of first place.
Fellow senior Chad Ramey will be searching for the 18th Top-10 finish of his career in his final regular season collegiate tournament. The Fulton, Miss., native finished seventh at Old Waverly after turning in a 5-under-par 67 for the third round.
