Ramey Named SEC Player Of The Week

Starkville, Miss., - A day removed from winning the first tournament of his Mississippi State career, junior Chad Ramey earns Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors.
"Quite an honor for Chad to receive this award, because the SEC is without a doubt the strongest conference in the country in men's golf," Coach Clay Homan said.
The Fulton, Miss., native picked up his first-career win at MSU with his 3-under par, 213 at the Tiger Invitational. The 3-under-par was three strokes ahead of second-place Niclas Carlsson of Auburn. Ramey improved his score by one stroke each round at Grand National (72+71+70).
The dominance from Ramey spilled over to the rest of Homan's squad, giving the No. 36 ranked Bulldogs a win over the field at Opelika, Ala., by seven strokes. The victory by Ramey and the Bulldogs came against five other ranked teams, including two SEC squads (Auburn and Kentucky).
"It was just a matter of time before Chad got his much-deserved first win. This will only be the first of many wins for him, because he is a complete player," Homan said of the junior's play.
Ramey overtook the top spot after finishing tied for sixth on Monday, but the Bulldog righty climbed up the leader board on Tuesday to capture his first tournament win. The junior knocked in 13 birdies on his way to victory.
The win also marked the fourth top-five finish for Ramey. Five of his seven tournaments this season have resulted in top-10 performances or better. Ramey is 468-99-18 on the year.
The last Bulldog to win SEC Player of the Week honors was former golfer Alex Rowland, after taking home the victory at the 2012 Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
