State Secures Second Consecutive Sweep

MOBILE, Ala. – Mississippi State picked up their second win of the 2026 season in straight sets and moved to 2-0 on the year with a victory over South Alabama.
"I'm incredibly proud of the defensive effort and focus tonight. That focus allowed us to play clean and execute our game plan extremely well," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "We played with a sense of urgency, and when things got tough, we didn't back down. We responded with points and confidence and worked through it together. This is a tough opening weekend, and we are getting better every day. I'm proud of the fight and the will to win this team has."
The Bulldogs dominated the Jaguars in the second contest of the Jaguar Classic as they collected more kills, digs and blocks over South Alabama. State only trailed once in the first set after a service error to begin the match. After regaining the lead with a bad set from the Jaguars at 4-3, State would never trail again in the opening set, running off to a 25-19 set victory.
Similar to State's first match of the year, the Bulldogs would never trail in the second set, as they ran away with a 25-15 set victory to earn the second match point. The third set saw a back-and-forth contest with six lead changes, but the Bulldogs would eventually earn the sweep with a third set win of 25-20.
Lindsey Mangelson once again led the Bulldog attack with 10 kills. The Bulldogs middles proved effective in the contest, as Noella Obi picked up seven kills at a .385 clip, while Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss collected four kills at a .429 percentage. Bernardita Aguilar picked up seven kills on 21 swings, while Olivia Stant picked up six kills.
McKena Yates once again led the Bulldogs with 13 digs. Cayley Hanson facilitated the Bulldog attack with 28 assists, adding to State's total of 31. Obi picked up six blocks assists, the most of any Bulldog in the contest.
