STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball announced their first transfer portal addition for the 2026-27 season, inking Cali Smallwood, a rising senior and one of the nation's top three-point shooters.
Â
Smallwood, a 5-9 guard from Susan Moore, Alabama, spent her last two seasons at UAB. She was also one of five players in the nation to shoot 50/40/90 last season (2FG%/3FG%/FT%).
Â
Smallwood knocked down 3.1 triples per game, a mark that ranked fourth in the nation across the 2025-26 season. She knocked down 3+ three pointers in 17 games, including eight games with five or more makes from distance. Smallwood finished in double figures in 24 of her 29 games with five 20+ point performances.
Â
Smallwood scored a season-high 29 points in her third game of the season, where she went 9-12 from the field and 6-7 from beyond the arch. She knocked down a season-high seven three pointers on just 12 attempts on January 31 against Wichita State, where she finished with 25 points on 61.5 percent shooting from the floor.
Â
Smallwood is the first transfer portal addition for the Bulldogs in the transfer portal window She will reunite with her younger sister, Lani, who was named Alabama's Gatorade Girl's Basketball Player of the Year this season at Albertville High School.
Â
In addition to the Smallwood sisters, the Bulldogs return their two top scorers from last season in the form of SEC All-Defensive and All-Freshman team member Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi, who finished as one of the four players in the SEC to average a double-double last season. State also returns midseason addition Melissa Guillet and will see incoming freshman and Tennessee's Miss Basketball, Andrea Flores, join the fray.
