No. 17 Women’s Golf Earns Sixth Consecutive NCAA Tournament Bid
April 29, 2026 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's golf will appear in a program record-extending sixth straight NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, as they were selected as the three seed in the Chapel Hill Regional on Wednesday. The tournament will begin on Monday, May 11 and conclude on Wednesday, May 13.
Charlie Ewing is a perfect six-for-six in making the postseason as Mississippi State's head coach since he took over the program in December of 2020. No other coach in program history has taken the Bulldogs to more than four NCAA Tournaments. This will be the 14th Mississippi State have made the NCAA Tournament spanning back to their first appearance in 2002.
In State's last six tournament appearances, they have advanced out of regionals on five different occasions. The lone time the Bulldogs did not advance was the 2021 season, Ewing's first season, where the regional round was canceled due to inclement weather and saw the top six seeds advance. State was the 12th seed that season.
This will be State's 14th time making the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs will take to the links at UNC Finley Golf Course, hosted by North Carolina. The Bulldogs are one of four top 25 teams, as they join No. 5 Texas, No. 12 North Carolina and No. 20 Oklahoma State in the field. No. 28 Kent State, No. 35 Virginia, No. 39 Michigan State, No. 44 NC State, No. 60 High Point, No. 67 Furman, Richmond and Howard round out the field.
The Bulldogs are led by junior Avery Weed, who is the NCAA's fifth-ranked golfer and leads the Bulldogs with a 70.22 scoring average this season. In addition to Weed, the mainstays of the Bulldog lineup are senior Izzy Pellot, junior Samantha Whateley and freshman Ines Belchior and Moa Stridh.
State will look to crack the top five of the leaderboard at the Chapel Hill Regional, as the top five out of the six total regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, beginning on May 22.
