
Mississippi State Falls In First Round Of SEC Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Foul trouble haunted the Bulldogs on Wednesday, as Mississippi State women's basketball fell in the first round of the SEC Tournament, 86-68, to the Florida Gators.

Bulldog forwards Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi both picked up two fouls in the first quarter and three total fouls before the halfway point of the contest. They both picked up their fourth fouls in the first three minutes of the second half, before Francis ultimately fouled out with under two minutes to go in the third quarter.

Despite playing in foul trouble, Nwaedozi tied for the team-lead of 12 points and picked up her 15th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. She went 75 percent from the charity stripe and picked up six of her points by way of free throws.

Destiney McPhaul scored 12 points as well, her 13th game in double figures this season. She shot 50 percent from the floor and from beyond the arch, while leading the team with six assists.
Francis logged only 17 minutes before ending her day with a fifth foul. She scored nine points and rejected four shots, all of which came in the first period. She also recorded a team-high two steals.

Kharyssa Richardson and Awa Fane each finished with nine points. Melissa Guillet provided valuable minutes, scoring seven points with no missed shots.

The Bulldogs will learn their postseason fate on Selection Sunday, which takes place on March 15 at 7 p.m. CT.
