Sacco-Ferrie Slugs Two Homers In Team USA Sweep Down Under
January 05, 2026 | Softball
BRISBANE, Australia – Sierra Sacco-Ferrie showed off her power swing in her Team USA debut as the U.S. Women's National Team swept a four-game series in Australia to open the new year.
Â
The Americans won every game in run-rule fashion, and Sacco-Ferrie started in the first three games. She scored in every contest and split time between right and left field.
Â
Making her first start in the Red, White and Blue, the former Mississippi State All-American drew a walk before coming home on a wild pitch. In her only other plate appearance before the U.S. secured a 9-0 victory in five innings, she singled for her first career hit on the international stage.
Â
Sacco-Ferrie stole a base and scored twice in the second game, a 14-0 win in six innings capped by a 10-run sixth for Team USA.
Â
She moved to her familiar leadoff spot for Game 3 and launched a solo home run to begin the U.S. half of the first inning. The following day, she came off the bench as a pinch hitter and again left the yard for a solo shot.
Â
Sacco-Ferrie previously participated in Team USA's All-Star Showcase and two National Team Camps in 2025. She played with the All-Stars in two scrimmages against the Team USA squad that represented the nation at The World Games in China.
Â
The current MSU student coach joins assistant coach Zac Shaw in representing State at the highest level. Shaw is captain of the U.S. Men's National Team that won bronze at the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup and gold at the World Games in 2025. Mia Davidson was part of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women's National Team at the 2024 Women's Softball World Cup, and M-Club Hall of Famer Iyhia McMichael is an assistant coach for the U.S. U-15 Women's National Team.
Additionally, Peja Goold played for Colombia at the 2025 Pan American Games, and Chloe Malau'ulu represented American Samoa at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games. Seventeen Bulldogs have now played for a national team.
Â
Team USA's focus now turns to the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup. The Group Stage will be hosted in Oklahoma City in 2026, and the Americans will look to clinch a berth in the World Cup Finals hosted in Australia in 2027 before returning to Olympic competition in Los Angeles in 2028.
