Mississippi State Falls To South Carolina

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State built itself some early momentum but ultimately dropped a 7-3 decision to South Carolina on Friday night at Dudy Noble Field.
The Diamond Dawg offense put together a three-run first inning to grab a 3-1 lead before the Gamecocks tied things with a two-run homer in the fourth. South Carolina then added a pair of runs in both the sixth and ninth to turn away MSU.
Bryce Chance collected a pair of hits including a double and an RBI to end the night 2-for-4 at the plate for State. Hunter Hines drove in a pair of runs with a double in the first inning and finished 1-for-3.
Pico Kohn drew the start on the mound. Kohn struck out six in five innings of work. Ben Davis took the loss, but did put together his longest relief outing of the season as he punched out six Gamecocks over four frames.
On Deck: Mississippi State and South Carolina continue this weekend's three-game set on Saturday. The contest is set for noon and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
