April 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Head coach Sam Purcell announced the addition of Saniyah King from Howard University on Monday evening.
King, a 5-7 guard from Washington, D.C., spent one season with the Bison. She started in 31 of 32 games played in, averaging 11.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game during her freshman season. She ranked third on the team in scoring, along with leading Howard in assists per game.
King was named the MEAC Women's Rookie of the Year after a standout season, earning Rookie of the Week honors for a conference leading 11 times. On top of leading the Bison and the MEAC in assists per game, she ranked second among all freshmen across the nation in assists per game, only behind Liv McGill of Florida.
King was named to the All-MEAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team after her first season of college basketball. She was also named as a BOXTOROW Second-Team All-American, which goes to the best HBCU players in the country. She was also named BOXTOROW's Impact Player of the Year.
King is the third portal addition to Purcell's '25-26 roster after previously announcing Kharyssa Richardson and Trayanna Crisp. Also joining next year's squad are three top 100 espnW prospects: Jaylah Lampley (No. 38), Madison Francis (No. 39) and Nataliyah Gray (No. 95). The trio ranked 10th in ESPN's Top 25 Recruiting Class Rankings, which was the second-best class in program history behind the sixth-ranked 2019 class.
