April 20, 2025 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Pico Kohn was named to the watch list for the 2025 National Pitcher of the Year.
Kohn is one of 54 pitchers from around the country and one of nine from the Southeastern Conference selected to the watch list by the College Baseball Foundation and College Baseball Hall of Fame. The left-handed junior has made 10 starts for the Diamond Dawgs compiling a 4-1 record, 3.29 earned run average, 81 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 54 2/3 innings of work this season.
Kohn has held opposing hitters to a .204 batting average against him with a WHIP of 1.01. He ranks fifth in the SEC in strikeouts, tied for seventh in innings pitched and ninth in ERA.
The Verbena, Alabama native has struck out a career-high 11 batters on three different occasions this spring, including his most recent start on Friday. Kohn was also tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week following his 10-strikeout, two-hit performance at then No. 10 Oklahoma across six shutout innings on March 24. During one stretch, he struck out eight-straight Sooners.
MSU has had two hurlers win National Pitcher of the Year honors. Chris Stratton was selected by Perfect Game in 2012 and Ethan Small earned the distinction from the ABCA and the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.
