State Falls In SEC Tournament Opener

AUBURN, Ala. – Mississippi State women's tennis dropped their opening round matchup of the SEC Tournament to the ninth-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks 4-2 on Wednesday in Auburn, Alabama.
The Bulldog duo of Emma Cohen and Alessia Tagliente picked up a win to begin doubles play, but the Gamecocks quickly responded winning the next two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
South Carolina claimed two singles wins on courts two and five to push their lead to 3-0, but State fought back with Gianna Oboniye picking up a ranked win defeating No. 13 Sarah Hamner 7-5, 6-3. Cohen then picked up her first dual match singles victory of her career taking down Lauren Friedman 6-4, 6-3 to cut the Gamecock lead to 3-2. However, the Gamecocks would go on to clinch the match earning a victory on court four. Jayna Clemens won her opening set before the match was finished.
