Split Meet Weekend On Deck
April 10, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field will continue the outdoor campaign split between the 44 Farms Team Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M, and the Crimson Tide Invitational, hosted by Alabama.
College Station will see two Bulldogs making their season openers in their main events, with Kennedy Jackson in the heptathlon and Peyton Bair in the decathlon. Jackson will compete in her first heptathlon, following two scoring finishes in the combined events at the last SEC indoor and outdoor championships. Bair, fresh off the heels of winning the indoor national title in the heptathlon, will compete in his first decathlon of the season. This will be his first ten-event stretch since competing in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships and the USATF Olympic trials, where he finished as runner-up at the national championships and 12th at the trials.
Just under two hours from Starkville, the distance and throws squads will be making waves in Tuscaloosa. Friday will see action in only the hammer and discus throws and the 5000m. Saturday will carry the bulk of competition, with athletes scattered across the throws, jumps and track events.
The day will begin with the men's javelin, with two-time All-American Rémi Rougetet making his season opener in the event. Sherman Hawkins will be the only sprinter to compete this weekend, running in the 400m. The 800m and 1500m will see a lot of action from the Bulldogs, with 18 entries between the two events for the men and women. Most notably, NCAA runner-up in the indoor 800m, Abdullahi Hassan, will open his season in the 1500m on Saturday.
