No. 22 MSU Falls in Nail-biter to No. 4 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The 22^nd-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a close contest to 4^th-ranked Texas, 4-3, on Thursday night. After clinching the doubles point with wins by Bulldog tandems of No. 4 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez and Dusan Milanovic and Michal Novansky, MSU just could not close the match out in singles.

Records: Mississippi State (12-3, 2-2 SEC) // Texas (13-2, 4-0 SEC)

Match Notes:

Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez have accumulated 46 career doubles victories together, which is good for fourth-most all time in school history. With their 6-3 victory tonight, the All-American tandem just need one more to tie George Coupland and Artem IIyshin for third place.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez now have six clinches as a team this season, which is tied for first on the team with Niccolo Baroni and Mario Martinez Serrano (6). Sanchez Martinez now is the outright leader in doubles clinches with 7.
No. 125 Baroni earned his second ranked singles win of the season with the defeat of No. 64 Pierre-Yves Bailly, 6-2, 6-3. He is tied for third-most on the team with Jovanovic for ranked singles wins.
Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes is still undefeated in SEC play for singles. He is now 2-0 with his win against Lucas Brown, 6-2, 7-6(1), and he has grown his win streak to six.

Next Up: The Bulldogs will host the No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Mar. 8, at 1 p.m.
