No. 18 MSU Comes Up Short Against Cowboys

HOUSTON – No. 18 Mississippi State plated five runs in the top of the seventh but were ultimately unable to keep pace with Oklahoma State in a 9-7 loss to close out the final game of the Astros Foundation College Classic on Sunday.
Each team finished the afternoon with nine hits apiece as the Cowboys improved to 6-4.
Reed Stallman led the Diamond Dawgs going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and four RBIs. Noah Sullivan went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI while Bryce Chance posted a 2-for-5 day that included a solo homer in the top of the first frame.
MSU (7-4) sent five pitchers to the mound with Kevin Mannell and Luke Dotson combining to work the final 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief out of the bullpen. Stone Simmons started and suffered the loss, falling to 2-1 on the year.
On Deck:
The Bulldogs host Southern Miss on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The mid-week matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
Game Notes:
Chance hit his first home run of the season.
Mannell made his first mound appearance for the Bulldogs. He punched out a batter and allowed no walks in 1 2/3 frames of relief.
Stallman posted his second multi-homer game of the season and is second on the team with four homers this spring.
Mississippi State outscored its opponents 14-0 in the seventh inning during the three-day tournament.
