No. 22 State Finishes Sixth at Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate
March 18, 2025 | Men's Golf
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 22 Mississippi State placed sixth at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate, enduring strong winds and difficult conditions to finish with a score of 18-over 882, with five Bulldogs placing inside the top 25.
Â
"Going into the final round, I thought we were in a good position to capitalize, especially knowing the course was going to play very firm and windy," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Unfortunately, we did not have our best stuff today. I know being exposed to high winds and firm conditions will only prepare us going forward, because we know that is what we will see in postseason play.
Â
"Sometimes on tough days, you can be exposed. I choose to look at it as a positive because we know what we need to clean up next time we are in contention and facing adverse conditions. We need to do a better job of committing to shots and trusting ourselves out there, and that is something we will focus on going forward as we prepare for the Mason Rudolph."
Â
Dain Richie led the Bulldogs with a 14th-place finish, his fourth-consecutive top 20. He is now tied for first on the team with four top-20 finishes this season.
Â
Harrison Davis, competing as an individual, notched his third top-20 finish of the spring. This ties the fifth-year senior's most top 20s in a season. He improved three spots from round two with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday.
Â
Ugo Malcor moved up 11 places from round two, leading the team with a 1-over 73 in the final round. His 20th-place showing is his second top 20 of the season and his second-best result at MSU.
Â
Garrett Endicott placed in a tie for 21st, leading the 75-person field with 42 pars for the event. Drew Wilson put together his second-best showing of the season, tying for 25th. Josep Serra rounded out the Dawgs with three birdies in his final round.
Â
State will return to the course in Nashville on April 4-6 for the Mason Rudolph Championship.
