Bulldogs To Compete In Lone Star State
February 06, 2025 | Track & Field
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State track and field will continue its regular season campaign at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M this weekend.
"In order to have a successful post season we need to rehearse what it would look and feel like when we get to that point of our journey," said head coach Chris Woods. "This weekend is Conference championship preview. That will be our mindset going into the weekend."
This weekend will be the first appearance of the Bulldogs at Texas A&M since the SEC Indoor Championships in 2022 and will be the first competition in the new R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field Facility.
The multis will compete in their first heptathlon and pentathlon of the season this weekend. Peyton Bair, the 2024 NCAA Runner-Up in the decathlon will open his season, accompanied by Lewis Barber, who finished seventh at the SEC Indoor Championship in the event. Kennedy Jackson will compete in her first pentathlon of the season, after finishing sixth at the indoor conference championship in the event.
In the second week of USTFCCCA rankings, State has three squads in the top 20 nationally. The men's 800m group is currently the fourth fastest nationally, with Abdullahi Hassan holding the collegiate lead by nearly a second. Hassan ran the sixth fastest time in collegiate history at the Orange & Purple Invitational and looks to improve on that time this weekend. The men's 60m squad is No. 7 in the nation, led by Nicholas Fakorede, who ran 6.60 at the last meet weekend. His time is the second fastest in program history and is the fastest time for State since 2013. The women's 800m squad is No. 13 nationally, led by Ramat Jimoh, who dropped four seconds off her previous time to run 2:04.97. This time is the second fastest in program history, less than 0.5 seconds off the university record. All three athletes and the rest of the squads look to improve their times this weekend.
The meet will be available to stream on the SEC Network+, with live results on FlashResults.com.
