Whateley Earns Best Career Finish At Chevron Collegiate, Bulldogs Finish Fourth

HUMBLE, Texas. – After conclusion of play at the Chevron Collegiate, the No. 12 Mississippi State Bulldogs earned a fourth play finish at 19-under par after shooting 7-under in the final round. Samantha Whateley had the best tournament of her career at the Golf Club of Houston.
Whateley, a sophomore from Johannesburg, South Africa, finished the Chevron Collegiate tied for third at 10-under par. In the 36-hole opening day, she tied her career-best round of 4-under twice and would go into the final round at 8-under. After starting her day with a bogey on hole 16, Whateley would play the rest of the course bogey-free while collecting three birdies on the way to a 2-under round and her first career top five finish.
Izzy Pellot recorded her second-straight top 10 finish at the Chevron Collegiate after finishing the tournament eighth at 9-under par. Like Whateley, Pellot shot two 4-under rounds in the opening day of the tournament. She concluded the final round at 1-under par. Her performance over the past two days marked only the second time in her career that she has shot under-par in all three rounds of a tournament. She has now shot six straight rounds under-par, the longest streak of her career.
Ana Pina Ortega excelled for the Bulldog lineup in the final day at the Golf Club of Houston. Pina Ortega entered the third round of action after finishing 1-under and 1-over in the two rounds yesterday, which set her back at even-par entering the day. Throughout her first eight holes of the third round, she collected five birdies and eventually concluded her day at 4-under par. Spanning back to The Ally, Pina Ortega has now finished under-par in the last three tournaments, shooting a combined three tournament total of 13-under par.
Avery Weed concluded the third round at even-par, which gave her a three-day total of 3-under par. It was the third time Weed has finished a tournament under-par this season. Surapa Janthamunee shot 2-under in the third round, dropping her three-day total to 1-over. Chiara Horder finished 1-over in the final round, putting her at 3-over for the tournament.
The 12th-ranked Bulldogs will be back in action on March 3rd for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The tournament will last from Monday to Wednesday. A portion of each day's tournament will be featured live on NBC's Golf Channel each day.
