A quick rundown of the action as MSU falls to the Crimson Tide.
THE BOTTOM LINE: A barrage of 3-pointers from Alabama fueled a big offensive showing for the home team as No. 24 Mississippi State fell 111-73 to the No. 6 Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa at the Coleman Coliseum on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs held a 7-6 lead five minutes into the game. However, a pair of Bama treys shortly after gave the Tide a lead they'd keep and extend throughout the evening. MSU trailed 53-27 at halftime but kept fighting and tallied 46 points of its own over the final 20 minutes of action. Still, it wasn't enough to get back into things against Alabama. The loss drops State to 19-9 overall this season with a 7-8 mark in Southeastern Conference play.
KEY NUMBERS: Alabama's 22 3-pointers jump off the page. The Crimson Tide finished 22-for-45 (48.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Overall, Bama shot 52.1 percent as a team. Meanwhile, State couldn't keep pace, shooting 38.4 percent as a group and 20 percent (6-for-30) from three-point range. MSU did put three scorers in double figures and had one with a double-double. Josh Hubbard totaled a team-high 21 points for the Dawgs. KeShawn Murphy scored 18 to go along with 11 rebounds. RJ Melendez finished with 11 points.
NEXT UP FOR THE DAWGS: Mississippi State returns home to battle LSU. The Bulldogs and Tigers face off on Saturday, March 1. Tip time at the Humphrey Coliseum is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be televised by SEC Network.
