Bulldogs Set To Close Regular Season On Split Weekend
February 13, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field will close out the regular season split between the Tiger Paw Invitational, hosted by Clemson, and the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt.
"This is an important weekend because it's our last regular season meet before we head into our championship season," said head coach Chris Woods. "There are some things we need to accomplish over the weekend, and our team has very clear objectives to focus our energy on. Hopefully, we'll accomplish those goals and get back on the bus healthy and primed up for the SEC Championships in two weeks. "
This weekend will mark the third consecutive year of the split between Vanderbilt and Clemson. The squad will send the distance and throws groups to Nashville, and the sprints, jumps, and hurdles to Clemson.
The Bulldogs will face stacked fields at both meets, with 31 teams competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational and 57 competing at the Music City Challenge. State will face conference foes Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Texas, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt this weekend. This will be the last regular season meet for State, followed by the SEC Indoor Championships to kick off the postseason campaign.
National leaders Abdullahi Hassan and Peyton Bair will compete this weekend, both looking to improve their times on the track. Heading into the meet weekend, the men's squad was ranked No. 16 on the USTFCCCA National TFRI list, with the 60m and 800m squads within the top 10 in the country. Bair was also named SEC Co-Field Athlete of the Week, after his standout performance in the heptathlon at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. After breaking the program record in the 200m last weekend, sophomore Jaitlyn Ware seeks to improve her time this weekend in the event.
Both meets will be available to stream, with Clemson live results available on Flashrresults.com and Vanderbilt Results available on PTtiming.com.
