Hungate Named To The NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year List

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCWBA) announced the 2025 NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year list and Mississippi State's pitcher Chase Hungate was one of 76 players on the initial list.

During his junior season at Virginia, Hungate appeared in 30 games and posted a 7-2 record. The seven wins were the second most on the team. In 53 innings pitched, the most for a reliever on the Cavilers, Hungate posted a 3.74 ERA. He had 37 punchouts and limited batters to a .251 batting average.

Over his three seasons of college baseball, Hungate has posted 16 wins and has appeared in 68 games. He has pitched 141 innings, with a career-high 63 innings coming his freshman season at VCU. He has tallied 104 strikeouts and has only issued 31 walks.

During his freshman season, he was part of the VCU team that won the Atlantic 10 Championship and went onto play in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional.
Mississippi State's 55-game schedule features 31 home games, 18 road contests, and six neutral-site matchups. The Diamond Dawg play seven of their first eight games at home and have an eight-game homestand from April 29 to May 13.
