Bair Earns SEC Weekly Honors
February 11, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE - Mississippi State track and field athlete Peyton Bair was named the SEC Co-Athlete of the Week after a tremendous showing at the Charlie Thomas Invitational last weekend.
"Both the coaching staff and I are continuously impressed by Peyton's drive and commitment to the sport, which shows in who he is on and off the track," said head coach Chris Woods. "It's still early in the season, and we know there will be more to come from Peyton."
Bair made his season opener in the heptathlon this past weekend at Texas A&M, winning the event with 6,104 points. This finish was a career best for Bair, also breaking the program record, which he set back in 2023. His performance takes the conference and national lead and is fourth in the world this year. He places himself on the NCAA all-time list with this score, with the 19th highest finish in collegiate history.
Bair opened the weekend on Friday, running 6.81 in the 60m, then setting consecutive personal bests of 7.50m in the long jump, 14.34m in the shot put and 2.01m in the high jump. He led the field with 3,448 points at the end of the first day of competition. Bair opened the Saturday events with 7.98 in the 60m hurdlers, 4.80m in the pole vault and 2:44.90 in the 1000m.
Winning all but three individual events, he combined for a career high point total and led the field by 331 points at the conclusion of the heptathlon.
Bair will be back in action at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, this weekend.
