December 30, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – After excellent performances against Samford on December 28, Favour Nwaedozi and Jaylah Lampley have been named the SEC's Player and Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Â
Nwaedozi and Lampley become the third Bulldog duo to win SEC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors in the same week in program history. They are the second pair of teammates to do so across the SEC this season.
Â
Nwaedozi's player of the week honor marked the first in her career. The junior from Delta, Nigeria, had a career-day for the Bulldogs, as she collected a career-high 30 points on 67 percent shooting and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.
Â
Nwaedozi's performance marked the second 30-point performance for the Bulldogs and 14th for the SEC this season. She led the Bulldogs in scoring for the sixth different contest and leads State with 14.6 points per game this year. She is also one of five players in the SEC to average a double-double, as she averages 10.7 rebounds per game.
Â
Lampley made her first career start in the contest against Samford and collected the first double-double of her career. The Fishers, Indiana, native scored a season-high 24 points on an impressive 10-12 shooting from the floor, including a 3-3 clip from distance, along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Â
Lampley's 24 points were the second most of a Bulldog freshman this season and her three triples were the most she had made in a single game in this season. She became the first Bulldog and second SEC freshman to shoot a perfect 100 percent from beyond the arch with at least three makes.
Nwaedozi and Lampley led the Bulldog offense in a game where State scored 112 points, the most of the Sam Purcell era. It was the most the Bulldogs scored in a single game since November 18, 2019.
Â
Lampley, Nwaedozi and the rest of the Mississippi State squad will be back in action to open SEC play inside Humphrey Coliseum on January 1. The Bulldogs will take on the Auburn Tigers, with tipoff coming at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
