Bulldogs Begin SEC Tournament Sunday Against Oklahoma

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The start of November brings the start of postseason soccer for Mississippi State as the Bulldogs will meet Oklahoma in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network in the third game of the day in Pensacola, Florida.

State is looking to win its opening game at the SEC Tournament for the fourth year in a row; however, each of the past three openers have needed extra time or penalties to decide a winner. Last season, the Bulldogs reached the semifinals.

Four MSU players earned All-SEC recognition this week, led by First Team selection and SEC Midfielder of the Year Ally Perry. Hannah Jibril and Zoe Main were Third Team honorees, and Adia Symmonds was tabbed to the All-Freshman team.

State and Oklahoma have met just once in program history, playing in Norman last year. The Bulldogs won that match, 2-0, with Main scoring the game-winner.

Kicking Off

SEC Selections: Ally Perry was named the SEC Midfielder of the year and earned First Team All-SEC honors for the second straight year. Zoe Main and Hannah Jibril earned Third Team honors, and Adia Symmonds was named to the league's All-Freshman Team. State's four selections are second only to last year's nine for the most in program history.

Best First Season: Nick Zimmerman broke the MSU program record for wins by a first-year head coach (10).

Tough Final Stretch: The Bulldogs' final three games ranked as the No. 12 hardest schedule remaining in the country at the time with a combined opponents' winning percentage of .705 entering those games.

Adia Represents America: Adia Symmonds was called up to the U.S. U-19/U-18 Women's National Team and missed State's final match against Georgia. She started in the friendly against Portugal (Oct. 28).

Score First: State has scored first in every match it has won this year, going 10-2-0.

Oklahoma has tied its single-season school records in goals (38) and assists (40) while breaking its record for points (116). The Sooners have played five games against ranked teams this year, including a pair against top-10 teams. However, Oklahoma is 0-1-1 against the top 10 while State is 2-0-0. The Sooners are undefeated when scoring first this year, and MSU has scored first in each of its 10 wins. OU was unbeaten in non-conference play for the first time in school history and posted back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 2016 when it last reached the NCAA Tournament.

Next Up

With a win, State will advance to face No. 4 Arkansas in the quarterfinals. That game would be scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and would also air on the SEC Network.
