Mississippi State Opens Play At Cullan Brown Collegiate
October 05, 2025 | Men's Golf
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mississippi State men's golf opens play at the Cullan Brown Collegiate on October 6-7.
Â
The event is named in honor of former Kentucky golfer Cullan Brown, who tragically lost his life after a battle with Osteosarcoma. He was a member of the Wildcats' golf team from 2018-20 and was selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2019.
Â
"This tournament has significant meaning for me personally," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I had the honor to get to know Cullan Brown and his family through the recruiting process when I was the assistant coach at Vanderbilt. He was one of a kind and always found a way to lift others around him.
Â
"When my daughter, Scottie, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma back in 2021, there wasn't a day that I didn't think about the fight and spirit that Cullan Brown had during his fight with cancer. I will make sure the team knows his story and what we are playing for this week."
Â
The Bulldogs head to Lexington coming off a fifth-place showing at The Blessings Collegiate Invitational last week. They were led by a pair of top-10 finishes from Garrett Endicott and Ugo Malcor.Â
Â
The 7,255-yard, par-71 Lexington Country Club plays host to this week's tournament. The 15-team field includes five squads (Mississippi State, West Virginia, Michigan, Cincinnati, North Alabama) receiving votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Individuals from Tennessee and Vanderbilt will also compete, rounding out a field of 90 players.
Â
"This will be a tough test for us on a challenging and championship-level golf course," Smith added. "We need to be disciplined on our approach shots this week and continue to build our process to an elite level. Our intention and playing focus need to be clear and simple."
