Four Bulldogs Begin Spring Season at Thomas Sharkey Individual

No. 20 Mississippi State men’s golf will begin its spring season in Statesboro, Georgia.
STATESBORO, Ga. -Â No. 20 Mississippi State men's golf will begin its spring season in Statesboro, Georgia, this weekend at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate on Feb. 1-2.

David Beard, Trip Duke, Harrison Davis, and Alejandro Fierro will represent MSU at the 6,900-yard, par-72 Georgia Southern University Golf Course. They are competing against individuals from 19 other schools, including six that join the Bulldogs in the SCOREBOARD Top 25 – No. 1 Ole Miss, No. 3 Auburn, No. 14 Florida, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 23 South Florida, and No. 24 Duke.

State sent four players to the Thomas Sharkey last spring with Drew Wilson leading the way and tying for third at 7-under.

Beard, who graduated this past December with a bachelor's degree in business administration, competed in the 2024 edition of the Thomas Sharkey. He climbed 17 spots in the final round to finish tied for 33rd. He played as an individual in the Visit Knoxville Collegiate to kick off the 2024-25 season.

Duke will make his second appearance in the Maroon and White. The true freshman from Fairhope, Alabama, played as an individual at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in the fall, improving all three days and carding nine birdies for the event.Â

Davis competed as an individual at the Valero Texas Collegiate and the Fallen Oak Collegiate this past fall. He opened the Valero with back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71 and carded four birdies in the final round of the Fallen Oak. This will be his second appearance in the Thomas Sharkey, where he finished tied for 25th as a sophomore in 2023.

Fierro rounds out the Bulldog contingent after he displayed a successful showing last season. As a true freshman at the 2024 Thomas Sharkey, he placed tied for 22nd — his career-best finish at the time — with a 1-under 71 in the second round. He played the Visit Knoxville Collegiate in the fall, where he carded a 71 to begin the event.

The field tees off at 7:15 a.m. CT in a shotgun start for the first round on Saturday. Trip Duke begins his round on No. 2 with Alejandro Fierro on the No. 3 tee. David Beard will start on No. 4, and Harrison Davis will tee off on Hole 5. Live results will be available on LeaderboardKing.
