Malcor Leads Team With Five Birdies In Second Round
September 07, 2024 | Men's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ugo Malcor carded a team-high five birdies on Saturday as Mississippi State improved its team score by three strokes in the second round of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate.
Â
Malcor finished 3-under for the day, and only three others in the field shot more birdies than he did. He now sits at 2-over for the tournament and is tied for 36th.
Â
"I thought we did a good job responding from yesterday's round," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Ugo and Dain [Richie] showed a lot of maturity by being able to bounce back after a tough day yesterday."
Â
Pacing MSU for the tournament is Garett Endicott. He followed up a 3-under day on Friday with a 69 on Saturday. The junior is 4-under through two rounds and sits tied for seventh. At one point midway through the round, he'd climbed into third place and was 7-under overall, but late bogeys derailed his finish.
Â
State's Dain Richie also carded a 69. He picked up back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4 and 5 and then grabbed one more on the final hole to finish on a high note. Josep Serra sits in a tie for 42nd at 3-over. Four of the five Bulldogs in the lineup are among the top 50.
Â
"We still have a lot to clean up heading into the final round," Smith added. "You can't be successful out here if you don't have all five guys in the round. We struggled with that again today and need to do a better job tomorrow of taking advantage of the opportunity that lies ahead of us. I am excited to for the final round and can't wait to keep learning more about this team and what we can become."
Â
The Bulldogs are now in sixth place as a team at 1-over. Teams will tee off in reverse order of their current standings on Sunday beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT. Live results will be available on Scoreboard.
