Bulldogs’ 2025 SEC Softball Schedule Set
September 11, 2024 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference released the league's 2025 softball schedule on Wednesday. Mississippi State will play eight three-game series against league competition in a 24-game SEC slate.
The schedule features both SEC newcomers in Texas and Oklahoma, along with reigning SEC Champion Tennessee and Women's College World Series participant Alabama.
Conference play opens March 7-9 when the Bulldogs host Auburn. The teams did not meet last year; however, in the 2023 series, State won a nine-inning contest that was highlighted by Josey Marron's 7.0 innings of relief work without allowing an earned run. Marron struck out seven while posting the fifth-highest season strikeout total on record by a Bulldog freshman.
State will then travel to meet the Crimson Tide on March 14-16. The Bulldogs' first road trip in conference play will also be their shortest. The following weekend, March 21-23, will give MSU a break from SEC play.
To conclude March, Texas will visit Starkville for the first time. The two teams played a 14-inning contest in 2002 that remains tied for the longest game in school history. Historically, every game in the series has been decided by two runs or fewer, and the teams' last three meetings were all one-run ballgames.
April begins with a road trip to Tennessee. In 2024, the series against the Volunteers saw State fans pack Nusz Park to set a three-game attendance record. Those crowds witnessed the Bulldogs defeat the then-No. 4 Lady Vols, 9-1, in five innings on Friday night, marking the program's first run-rule victory over a top-five team.
State hosts Missouri on April 11-13. The Bulldogs have won the last two home series against the Tigers, including a sweep in 2019 that was capped with a run-rule victory in the series finale.
The Bulldogs have played Oklahoma every year under Samantha Ricketts except for the shortened 2020 season, and series is currently tied for State's longest uninterrupted series. The streak extends to five consecutive years in 2025, and on April 18-20, Mississippi State will travel to Love's Field in Norman for a three-game set.
State remains on the road the following weekend and closes out April with a trip to Kentucky. The teams did not play in 2024; however, the Bulldogs swept at home in 2023. The series is one of the tightest in program history against another SEC school, with the Bulldogs holding a 34-31 edge all-time.
The regular season ends on May 1-3, as Mississippi State welcomes rival Ole Miss to Starkville. The Bulldogs have won six of the last seven meetings in the series, and they swept the last series at Nusz Park in 2022. Under head coach Samantha Ricketts, MSU is 27-5 against in-state teams and has outscored those programs, 242-76.
The 2025 SEC Tournament will be hosted by Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens on May 6-10.
Game times and television assignments will be announced at a later date. The schedule is subject to change, including the shift of conference series weekends to Saturday-Monday.
