State Sits in Second After Day One of Carmel Cup
August 30, 2024 | Women's Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – After the opening round of the Carmel Cup, the Mississippi State Bulldogs sit in second place at 3-over.
Â
Pebble Beach proved to be challenging for the entirety of the field in the opening round, as only 11 of the 48 golfers in the field finished even-par or better. The Bulldogs saw three golfers in that group of 11 with Julia Lopez Ramirez leading the pack. Â
Â
Lopez Ramriez debuted in midseason form, as she finished the day in first place at 6-under par. This was the 38th time in her career she carded a round in the 60s and the fourth round in the 60s in her last eight rounds of collegiate golf.
Â
Izzy Pellot finished her round even-par, her 18th career par or better round. Pellot started the day on fire, as she birdied holes four, five and six before making the turn on the back nine, which saw trouble for the entire field. On her final hole of the day, Pellot birdied the par-five 18th to conclude her day.
Â
Avery Weed opened her season with a round of even-par. She showed consistency throughout the day, never seeing her score go above par until the 17th hole. Like Pellot, Weed birdied the final hole of the day to get back even.
Â
Heading into the second day, the Bulldogs sit two strokes behind Arkansas, who leads the field at 1-over. State is set to tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring for the Carmel Cup is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
