STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State track and field program produced four student-athletes that were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Remi Rougetet, Johnathan Jones, Emma Hunt and Jhordyn Stallworth all represented the Bulldogs on the list due to their excellence both in the classroom and on the track and field.
Rougetet was selected as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
Rougetet posted a 3.5 grade point average and graduated in May with a degree in interdisciplinary studies. Rougetet earned his second USTFCAA All-American honor at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after finishing sixth overall in the Javelin.
Jones, a graduate transfer from the University of Arkansas at Little rock, maintained a 3.8 while earning his degree in Workforces Educational leadership. The All-American had four top-five finishes in the high jump this season and concluded his collegiate career securing a trip to the NCAA East First Rounds.
Hunt had a 3.6 GPA in her graduate year, earning a degree in food science nutritional health with a concentration in health promotion. Hunt concluded her season holding the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.15m (13- 7.25). She had four top-five finishes and earned a trip to the NCAA East First Rounds for the second year in a row.
Stallworth posted a 3.5 while earning her master's in business administration. Stallworth earned her first All-America honor in the shot put after placing 11th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to conclude her collegiate career. She will leave State with both the shot put and discus records as well as the freshman shot put and discus records.
The Academic All-America program was created in 1952. The voting process was updated last summer, raising the minimum GPA qualification from 3.30 to 3.50 and limited all at-large submissions to 10 per school, five per gender, regardless of sport. Student-athletes must have played in a minimum of 50 percent of a team's contests to be eligible. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed a full year at their institution, unless they are a graduate transfer.
