Bulldogs Fall to Virginia, 5-4

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs dropped their first game in the Charlottesville Regional on Saturday night as they were defeated by the Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 5-4.
State tallied ten hits throughout the contest, with four Dawgs having multi-hit days. Hunter Hines led the Bulldog offense as he went 2-for-4 with a walk. Hines had three RBIs in the contest as he drilled a three-run homer in the third inning, his 54th career homer. He now sits tied for fourth for the most career homers in program history. David Mershon, Dakota Jordan, and Bryce Chance also tallied two hits in the contest. Mershon tallied a stolen base, his 26th of the season, the fifth most in a single season.
Jurrangelo Cijntje drew the start for the Bulldogs. He tied his career high in innings pitched after throwing seven complete. He picked up five strikeouts on seven hits. Cijntje walked one in his start, the eighth time he has allowed less than two this season.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at 11 a.m. CT as they take on St. John. The winner will advance to play the Virginia Cavaliers in the finals of the Charlottesville Regional.
