
State in Third Place after Opening Round of Bermuda Run Regional

BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – After the first round at the NCAA Bermuda Run Regional, Mississippi State sits in a tie for third place at five-under par. Surapa Janthamunee led the Bulldogs in the opening round.

The Bulldogs finished the day at 283, the lowest team score in a single round this season. On par five holes, State scored five-under as a team. They also saw success on par four holes, as the team finished 1-over on those, the second-best of any team in the round.

State sits six strokes out of the lead of first place Wake Forest, who is 11-under, and is five strokes out of second place Tennessee, who is 10-under. The Bulldogs are tied at third with in-state rival Ole Miss, who also finished five-under. Texas and Oregon State round out the top five tied at three-under.

Janthamunee put together one of the best rounds of her sophomore year in the opening round, as she ended the day tied for fourth place. She finished with a stellar 69 (-3), her second round in the 60s this season and fourth of her career. The last time SJ carded a round in the 60s was at The Ally, where she eventually earned a second-place finish. Along with Janthamunee's performance, the team tallied four par or better rounds.

Julia Lopez Ramirez finished her day 1-under par and tied for 16th. After completing the first nine holes 1-over, she strung together a trio of birdies on holes 4, 5 and 6 to get back under par. This marked Lopez Ramirez's 61st career par or better round, which puts her in sole possession of first place after passing Ally McDonald's (Ewing) record of 60.

Avery Weed shot five birdies today, tied for the most of any Bulldog. She finished 1-under as well, marking her 11th par or better round. She's now tied for fourth place for par or better rounds by a freshman.

Chiara Horder had a good day for the Dawgs as well. After going above par on the next to last hole of the day, she bounced back on the final hole to finish at even par, her fourth par or better round this season. She sits in a tie for 21st.
