Kids Coach - Sam Roden
May 04, 2024 | Baseball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Sam Roden of Greenwood, MS.
Born with a heart defect, Sam went into congestive heart failure at 7 weeks old, and required open heart surgery at 10 weeks old to repair holes in his heart. Sam's mom says the compassion that the Children's of Mississippi pediatric cardiovascular teams showed during those days is something she will never forget.
Sam, now almost 5 years old, is doing great! Although his care team had to keep an eye on one of his heart valves for a while, he hasn't needed any additional surgeries and has had no other heart issues to date. Sam will continue to have yearly checkups with his pediatric cardiology team to monitor his progress.
Sam loves playing with his brother and his cousins. He loves all things outdoors, especially visiting their family's deer camp where he loves to fish and ride the ranger. He also enjoys playing t-ball and soccer. He is very active in church and loves to go on trips! His favorite vacation spot is the beach where he has fun swimming and looking for seashells.
Have fun at Saturday's game, Sam. Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
