
Bulldog All-Americans Bow Out In NCAA Quarterfinals

STILLWATER, Okla., - A stellar season for Mississippi State's All-American sophomores Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez came to a close in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Thursday.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez – the nation's 11th-ranked duo – fell 6-3, 6-3 to Texas' 24th-ranked tandem of Cleeve Harper and Eliot Spizzirri.
The Bulldog pairing picked up two top 20 wins during the event held at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State. Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez topped No. 19 Daniel Milavsky and Cooper Williams of Harvard 7-6(2), 7-6(4) in the opening round before knocking off TCU's ninth-ranked team of Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives Marcos 6-4, 7-5 to qualify for All-American status.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez finish out the year with a 24-11 record together which includes a dozen wins over ranked opponents. They prevailed six times over top 20 foes and have three victories versus top 10 teams.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez's 24 wins on the year marks the sixth-most victories by a Bulldog tandem in a single season matching the mark set by Kristian Broems and Per Nilsson in 1994 as well as Matthieu Ballay and Mattias Karlsson in 1996.
