
Jovanovic, Sanchez Martinez Obtain All-American Status

STILLWATER, Okla., - Mississippi State men's tennis added two more All-Americans to its already impressive resume on Wednesday.
No. 11 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez knocked off TCU's ninth-ranked tandem of Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives Marcos in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championships which sends the Bulldog duo into the quarterfinals and secured their All-American status.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez push MSU's All-American total to 49 in the program's storied history. They are the first Bulldogs to obtain All-American notoriety since 2019 when Nuno Borges, Strahinja Rakic, Giovanni Ordani and Niclas Braun each earned the honor.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez advance to take on Texas' 24th-ranked twosome of Cleeve Harper and Eliot Spizzirri in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Harper and Spizzirri upset No. 2 Holden Koons and Dhakshinewar Suresh 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Wednesday's victory for Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez marked the second top 20 win for the sophomores in as many days at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State. They also knocked off 19th-ranked Daniel Milavsky and Cooper Williams of Harvard 7-6(2), 7-6(4) on Tuesday.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez improve to 24-10 together on the year and have posted a dozen wins over ranked opponents. The victory over Gorzny and Vives Marcos marks their sixth win versus a top 20 foe and their third against a top 10 tandem.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez are now tied with Kristian Broems and Per Nilsson (1994) as well as Matthieu Ballay and Mattias Karlsson (1996) for the sixth-most doubles wins in a single season in school history.
