May 15, 2024 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Sophomore infielder David Mershon was named to the SEC Community Service Team, the Southeastern Conference announced on Wednesday.
Â
Mershon has spent his time off the field with local charities in the Golden Triangle area as well as Central Mississippi. Mershon has given time to the Miracle League in Columbus where he helps children with disabilities play baseball. In addition to his time with the Miracle League, he has volunteered time at a local food pantry at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Starkville.
Â
While the Diamond Dawgs were in Pearl for the annual Governor's Cup, Mershon and the team spent time at Children's of Mississippi to spend time with the young patients. He has also been involved in the Top Dawg leadership program at MSU that connects with neighboring schools during the year.
Â
Using his talents on the field, Mershon has put up a .344 batting average this year with 62 hits, 35 RBIs, 11 doubles and four home runs. Three of his four home runs this year have come during SEC play.
Â
Mershon and the Diamond Dawgs return to action on Thursday when they host Missouri to start their final regular season series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on SECN+.
