Diamond Dawgs Fall to Central Arkansas

With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, the Dawgs were within a run but could not get the tying run across the plate.
Mississippi State started off slow, tallying just a single hit heading into the ninth inning. The Diamond Dawgs started to make a comeback in the ninth as Hunter Hines sparked the inning with a solo home run. The Dawgs then tallied three more runs from a pair of Jackson McKenzie and Johnny Long singles but could not complete the comeback.
Hunter Hines showed his power at the plate knocking out his eighth home run of the season. David Mershon got the first hit of the game for the Diamond Dawgs. Mershon went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Dakota Jordan picked up his 42nd RBI on the season with a sacrifice fly to right field. Johnny Long picked up a pair of RBIs and went 1-for-1 for the day.
Nolan Stevens got the start on the bump, his first career start. Stevens put in two innings of work and punched out one. Colby Holcombe and Gage Haley, each pitched two innings and struck out five combined. Logan Forsythe, Tyler Davis and Cole Cheatham each pitched one inning.
Mississippi State is back at Dudy Noble Field for a three-game SEC series against Georgia. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Sunday and Friday's games will be broadcasted on SECN+, while Saturday will be on SECN.
