Bulldogs Fall To No. 13 Texas A&M

STARKVILLE – Persistent precipitation on Friday forced play inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion where Mississippi State dropped its first SEC home match to No. 13 Texas A&M 4-0.
Doubles was tightly contested and came down to the wire. Aggie tandem Sydney Fitch and Nicole Khirin took the first match 6-2 over Maria Rizzolo and Alessia Tagliente. MSU's Athina Pitta and Alexandra Mikhailuk led Mia Kupres and Mary Stoiana early on, but the sixth-ranked Aggie duo rallied back for a 6-4 victory.
When Texas A&M (11-5, 3-0 SEC) took the doubles point, State's Chloé Cirotte and Jayna Clemens were locked in a 5-5 tie with Jeanette Mireles and Lucciana Perez.
Khirin, ranked 17th in singles, started the Aggies off with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rizzolo followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Perez past Pitta. The top-ranked player in the nation, Stoiana, capped the match by clinching against Mikhailuk 6-3, 6-1.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 9-5 on the year and 0-2 in league play. Chris Hooshyar's squad returns to action against 34th-ranked LSU at noon on Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
