Hunt Improves Program Record On Day One Of The Battle On The Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – Graduate student Emma Hunt broke the school pole vault record on Day One of the Battle On The Bayou. State finished with a total of eight personal records on Friday.
Hunt who already holds the Mississippi State women's pole vault record, improved the record with a mark of 4.15m (13-7.25). The height ranks ninths on the 2024 performance list. This is her first time breaking 4.0m (13-1.05) since she set her previous record of 4.13m (13-6.5) in 2023.
Kennedy Jackson earned fourth place in the long jump with a personal best mark of 6.04m (19-9.75), on her second attempt. Jackson improved her previous best set at the Hurricane Invitational by over an inch and by over a foot and a half since her first long jump event in 2021 at the Pepsi Relays.
Junior Haley Ogle, sophomore Ramat Jimoh and freshman Hunter Anderson swept the first, second, and third place of the second heat, respectively. Ogle claimed first among the group in Heat Two with a personal record time of 4:25.97, while Jimoh ran a season-best time of 4:27.67 for second place. Anderson who led the group for the second lap and a half finished in a personal record time of 4:28.24 for third in the second heat.
The Battle On The Bayou will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday with the women's discus and men's shot put followed by the women's high jump at 11 a.m. Running events will begin at noon.
