Track And Field Heads To Baton Rouge For Battle On The Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – After a successful home meet a week ago, the Mississippi State track and field program returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Battle on the Bayou.
Hosted by LSU, the meet will be held at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium and will feature 16 teams, including seven from the SEC. Several ranked teams will be in action at the two-day meet. On the men's side, No. 3 MSU will be joined by No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 11 Clemson and No. 13 Kentucky. The women's competition will included No. 1 LSU, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 12 Clemson.
Friday's events will begin at 12:30 p.m. CT with the men's and women's hammer followed by the pole vault at 3:15 p.m. CT. Track events will begin at 5 p.m. CT with the men's and women's 400m hurdles. Saturday's events will kick off at 10 a.m. CT with the women's discus and men's shot put followed by track events at noon CT beginning with the 4x100m relays.
The No. 3 Bulldog men's squad is led by freshman standout Jordan Ware. The two-time SEC Runner of the Week holds the nation's top time in the 200m (20.18w) and ranks fifth in the 100m (10.16).
State's women's team is highlighted by seniors Rosealee Cooper and Jhordyn Stallworth. Cooper, who finished seventh in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, ranks eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.10. Stallworth, who has broken the school record in the shot put three times this year, ranks 12th on State's 2024 performance list with a distance of 16.41m (53-10.25).
