March 10, 2024 | Men's Golf
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following an 18-day hiatus, the No. 22 Mississippi State men's golf team is set to compete in its second team tournament of 2024 at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State University.Â
The tournament will be played on the 7,240-yard, Par 72 Seminole Legacy Golf Course in Tallahassee. MSU and the rest of the field will play three rounds over two days, with the first two rounds occurring Monday ahead of the closing round Tuesday. Â
Mississippi State is one of four ranked teams in the 14-team field that also includes No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 9 Arkansas and host No. 12 Florida State.Â
"We are very excited to get back out and compete after a couple weeks of really good preparation," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I feel like as a team we are locked in and focused for this next opportunity."Â
The Bulldogs are set to tee off at 7:15 a.m. CT on Monday to start the first round. State is set to send out their fifth unique team lineup of this season. The Bulldogs will be represented by Hunter Logan, Garrett Endicott, Josep Serra, Alejandro Fierro and Harrison Davis. The five players included in team scoring will also be joined by Drew Wilson, competing individually for the second time this season. Â
"We need to continue making the climb and enjoying our journey together," Smith continued. "I want us to have fun competing this next week and take the confidence we have gained through our preparation into this next tournament."Â
Logan enters the tournament as the nation's No. 31 golfer and has shot par or better in 12 of 17 rounds this season, which is the most on the team. Nine of those rounds have been in the 60s, which also leads the team, and he has finished inside the top-three twice this season. Logan earned an individual crown at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate in the fall. Â
Endicott golfs in the No. 2 spot for the Bulldogs after finishing tied for 22nd at the Watersound Invitational. At that event, he shot par or better in all three rounds for the second straight tournament, giving him 11 total par or better rounds on the season. He has twice earned top-20 finishes this season.Â
Serra ranked among the top 20 in the SEC with a 70.57 stroke average last fall and is the nation's No. 86 golfer according to Spikemark. He also is tied for second-highest on the team with 11 rounds of par or better play this season. Serra led all Bulldogs at the Watersound Invitational, finishing tied for 14th. Earlier in the fall, he earned the first top-three finish of his Division I career, tying for third at the Fallen Oak Collegiate. In total, Serra has finished inside the top 20 on four occasions this season.Â
Davis will play in the No. 5 spot for the Bulldogs once again. He earned his best finish since the 2021-22 season with an 11th place finish at the fall's Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Â
Fierro will compete as a member of the lineup for the first time this season after playing individually on three occasions. He carded an even-par 71 in the first round of the SEC Match Play event earlier this season, and he tied for 22nd at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate. Last time out, Fierro carded two below-par rounds at the Watersound Invitational and finished tied for 37th.Â
Wilson will again compete individually for the Bulldogs after a stellar performance at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate. In his Bulldog debut, Wilson shot a 7-under 209 and was the highest placing freshman in the field, tying for third. His career-low 65 in the second round tied for the lowest round by a Bulldog this season. Wilson went on to be named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week for his performance.Â
