February 09, 2024 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – Hunter Logan added another accolade to his stellar senior campaign on Friday. Â
Early Friday afternoon, Logan was named to the watch list for the prestigious 2024 Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank, as announced jointly by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).Â
Logan became just the second Bulldog ever to be named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, sharing the honor with 2019 nominee Peng Pichaikool. Both players were coached by State's Dusty Smith.Â
"Hunter should be very proud to be on the watchlist for the prestigious Ben Hogan award," Smith said. Â "He has worked very hard and diligently throughout his college golf career and I am very happy to see him recognized for what he has achieved so far this season."Â
The Ben Hogan Award is given annually to the nation's top men's golfer from NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA colleges and considers all collegiate, amateur, and professional tournaments over the previous 12 months. Â
Friday's watch list will be cut to 10 semifinalists on Friday, April 19, before a three-man finalist cut on May 2. The finalists will attend a black-tie dinner Monday, May 20, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner will be crowned.Â
Logan's recognition comes after a stellar fall in which he earned three top-10 finishes in five and an SEC Golfer of the Week honor. The senior from Steens, Mississippi took home an individual victory at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate alongside a tie for second at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and an eighth-place finish at the fall closing Kapolei Invitational. Â
Alongside his collegiate resume, Logan earned a victory at the Southeastern Amateur and Dogwood Invitational over the summer and recently picked up a top-25 finish at the Vic Open on the PGA Tour Australasia. Currently, Logan stands as the nation's No. 23 collegiate golfer according to the Clippd Golf Rankings and is No. 77 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Â
Logan will look to keep his momentum going into the approaching spring season. The Mississippi State men's golf team will play its first team event of the spring at the Watersound Invitational on February 19-21 in Panama City Beach, Florida. Â
