STARKVILLE – Following two-matches in Tennessee, Mississippi State men's tennis returns home to the Rula Tennis Pavilion to take on North Florida on Friday at 5 p.m.
Friday's match marks the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Ospreys on the court.
MSU (5-3) is coming off a hard-fought 4-3 victory at Memphis on Wednesday where the match came down to the third set of the final court to decide a winner. Dusan Milanovic earned his second ranked win of the season over No. 123 Pau Fanlo 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1 to clinch his second match for the Bulldogs.
No. 26 Petar Jovanovic headlines State's lineup and leads the team with 16 singles victories on the year. Jovanovic also makes up half of the nation's 29th-ranked doubles duo alongside fellow sophomore Benito Sanchez Martinez.
Senior Carles Hernandez has won 10 of his last 11 singles matches dating back to last season. Hernandez and freshman Radomir Tomic are currently tied for the team lead with six singles victories during dual match play.
North Florida is 1-2 on the year off the heels of a 5-2 victory at home against South Carolina State on Feb. 3. The Ospreys are 0-1 against SEC opponents this season having dropped a 6-1 decision at Florida last month to open the season.
UNF features the No. 56 doubles tandem in the nation in Rodrigo Crespo and Jonas Hartenstein. Hartenstein, a senior from Germany, spent his freshman season at Mississippi State during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. He posted a 1-2 singles record and 1-0 doubles mark during his lone spring in Starkville.
