February 21, 2024 | Men's Golf
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 20 Mississippi State men's golf team completed the third and final round of the Watersound Invitational on Wednesday, shooting a combined 2-under 286 to finish in 9th place. The Bulldogs shot a combined 861 over the tournament and finished 3-under par overall. The finish marks MSU's second consecutive tournament and third time this season finishing in ninth place. As a team, MSU has finished in the top-10 in all six of their tournaments this season.Â
MSU's performance was led by a 6-under performance from Josep Serra. After bogeying the opening hole, Serra would go on to card five birdies, and his first eagle of 2024 on hole No. 17. His 6-under 66 was good for the lowest third round in the field, and allowed him to jump 26 spots on the individual leaderboard, into a four-way tie for 14th place. Serra has now finished inside the top-20 in four of the six tournaments he has competed in this year which is the most on the team. He now has 10 rounds of par or better golf this season, and five rounds in the 60s, good for the second and third most among MSU this season respectively.Â
States's second-best round of the day belonged to Alejandro Fierro who carded a career-low 3-under 69. Fierro recorded his first collegiate round in the 60s by way of five birdies. Fierro went bogey-free on the first 17 holes of action and was as low as 5-under ahead of the final hole, but double-bogeyed on hole No. 9 to finish 3-under. Overall, Fierro finished 2-over for the tournament and rose 17 spots on the final day to tie for 37th.Â
Hunter Logan and Garrett Endicott both finished the tournament just outside the top-20, finishing tied with one another at 1-under 215 and in 22nd. Logan's round was something of a return to form as he rebounded from a 5-over performance on Tuesday with an even-par 72 round to close the tournament. Logan carded four birdies on the day and got to 2-under before eventually evening out on the back nine. Logan currently leads the Bulldogs with 12 rounds of par or better golf this season. Â
Endicott started strong, going 2-under on the front nine and jumping inside the field's top-10 before faltering toward the end. Even still, Endicott marked his third-best placement of the campaign, and his second straight tournament with a t-22nd finish. Â
The Bulldogs will now have a couple of weeks off before turning their attention to the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 11-12. MSU will then have a quick turnaround, competing at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., March 15-17.Â
