February 20, 2024 | Men's Golf
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – No. 18 Mississippi State men's golf completed the second round of the Watersound Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a combined 4-over 292. The Bulldogs now stand at 1-under overall and currently are in ninth place. Â
"It was certainly a day in which the big numbers really hurt us," head coach Dusty Smith said. "That has been the story the entire week so far, and we need to change that. Our good has been really good, but our decision making and shot selection has hurt us a lot this week."Â
Garrett Endicott led the Bulldogs for the day, carding three birdies and finishing 2-under par. Endicott's 70 marks his 10th par or better round this season, which is good for second-most on the team. He has carded five consecutive rounds of par or better, dating back to the first round of the fall-closing Kapolei Invitational. He now stands among the field's top 20 and is tied for 16th place.Â
"Garrett played such a steady round of golf and did a great job being the anchor for the team today when we needed it." Smith added. "I have a lot of belief in this group and know we will come back tomorrow with a clear mindset."Â
Elsewhere, the other five competing Bulldogs combined for 13 birdies during the round. After starting off 4-over on the front nine, Harrison Davis went bogey-free on the back nine holes and brought his score to just 2-over on the day. Conversely, Josep Serra started strong, getting to 1-under at the turn, before a tough first hole on the front nine would see him finish 2-over. Â
Hunter Logan carded a birdie on Hole No. 18 and is currently the second highest placing Bulldog in the field. He stands at 1-under overall and is just three strokes outside the top 10. Â
"Our guys never gave in and fought to the very end which I am very proud of," Smith concluded. "That says a lot about the character of this team. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to finish the tournament like we know we can."Â
The Bulldogs will tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday from the No. 10 tee to start the final round. Â
