Kids Coach - Max Bishop - Mississippi State

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.

This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Max Bishop of Madison.

Before Max was born, pediatric cardiologists at Children's of Mississippi discovered he had a rare, critical heart defect. Normally, there are two main vessels that take blood from the heart throughout the body. Max had only one.

In his seven short years, Max has had five open-heart surgeries to repair his heart and create the missing vessel with artificial valves and veins. Because these don't change size, Max will need future surgeries to replace them as he grows.

In the meantime, he is a math whiz who loves school and never meets a stranger.
