December 09, 2024 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE - Mississippi State track and field has released its 2025 indoor and outdoor schedules. The Bulldogs will compete at 15 meets throughout the regular season, followed by the conference and national championships.
"Every year when we embark on a new season, I'm always excited to see what our students-athletes can showcase after a long off-season full of challenging training," head coach Chris Woods said. "This season, in particular, is a little bit more special because I believe we have the firepower to make history for this program. However, it's going to be important that our athletes, coaches, and staff keenly focus on keeping everybody healthy and focused and disciplined in this long six-month season that we are about to get started with."
State will open the indoor season in Birmingham, Alabama, at the UAB Blazer Invite on Jan. 11. The squad will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, for the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 17-18 for the first time since 2021.
The Bulldogs will close out January in Clemson, South Carolina, at the Bob Pollock Invitational on Jan. 24-25. The first meet in February is the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Feb. 7-8. The Bulldogs will split the final regular-season weekend between the Music City Challenge in Nashville and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson on Feb. 14-15.
State will return to College Station to kick off the postseason at the SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by Texas A&M on Feb. 28- March 1. The indoor season will conclude at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Participation in the national championships is contingent upon qualification. Athletes must be within the top 16 in the country in their respective events or among the top 12 for relays. State had a scorer at the 2024 championship, with alumni Rosealee Cooper finishing eighth.
The outdoor season will begin the following week in Starkville as State hosts the Alumni Bulldog Relays on March 20-22. Alumni are invited back for the second annual alumni weekend to enjoy family-friendly events that include facilities tours, a banquet and the chance to reconnect with former teammates and meet current athletes and coaches.
MSU will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for its first away outdoor meet, the Battle on the Bayou, on March 28-29. On the following weekend, the team will compete at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville on April 4-5.
State will split the weekend of April 11-12 between College Station and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the 44 Farms Team Invitational and the Crimson Tide Invitational. The team will split the following weekend between Gainesville and Winston Salem, North Carolina, at the Tom Jones Memorial and the Wake Forest Invitational.
The Bulldogs return to the 129th Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 24-26. State last competed at the meet in 2018, where the team earned three wheels, two of which were Championships of America, and broke several university records. The regular season will close with the second home meet of the season, the Maroon and White Invite, on May 1-2.
The outdoor postseason campaign begins at the SEC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Kentucky. The meet is on May 15-17 in Lexington. The Bulldogs will continue to the NCAA East First Round, located in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 28-31, pending qualification. Athletes qualify for this meet by being inside the top 48 in the East region in their respective events or the top 24 for relays.
The final meet for the outdoor season is the NCAA Outdoor Championships, located in Eugene, Oregon, on June 11-14. Athletes qualify by finishing top 12 in their respective events and relays at the First Round championship, in both the East and West. State is looking to improve on its stellar performance from the 2024 season, in which the Bulldogs sent 21 entries and earned seven All-American finishes. The 2024 championship was highlighted by two podium finishes, a runner-up finish in the decathlon by Peyton Bair and a sixth-place finish in the javelin by Remi Rougetet.
