Signee Spotlight: Brinkley Moreton
December 07, 2024 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Brinkley Moreton, the No. 23 player in the class according to Extra Inning Softball, signed with Mississippi State softball in November.
Â
The Summers, Arkansas, native was also tabbed No. 44 in the class by Perfect Game. The pitcher also has experience at the plate and is considered the No. 10 two-way player in the nation.
Â
"Brinkley is an absolute Bulldog on the mound, and we are excited to add her to our bullpen next year," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "She is a fierce competitor and reminds me of Coach T [Taryne Mowatt-McKinney] as a player, and I can't wait for the two of them to start working together. We are looking forward to having Brinkley in Starkville soon and expect her to do big things in the Maroon and White."
Â
Moreton played at Lincoln High School where her team won three consecutive conference and regional championships from 2022-24 as well as finishing as state runner-up in 2024. Along the way, she was a three-time All-State Tournament Team, All-State and All-Conference selection.
Â
In her freshman year, Moreton posted a 1.49 ERA and 305 strikeouts over 150.1 innings. Offensively, she posted a 2.123 OPS with a .568 average and 38 extra-base hits. She broke the single-season state record with 65 RBIs that year and was named the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Newcomer of the Year. Her efforts also earned her a spot on the All-Arkansas Preps Team and Lincoln Softball Player of the Year honors. Moreton was ranked as high as No.10 in the class of 2025 following that season and was twice the Extra Inning Softball National Player of the Week Runner-Up.
Â
The following season, she recorded a .566 batting average and 2.030 OPS with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs. Moreton won 18 games with a 1.92 ERA in the circle and was again tabbed to the All-Arkansas Preps First Team and named First Team All-State by SB Live Arkansas. Additionally, she was named to SB Live's Top 20 Sophomores list nationwide. Last year, Moreton struck out 232 batters as a junior with a 1.81 ERA and 16 wins while posting a .464 batting average at the plate.
Â
"I chose MSU because of the family atmosphere," Moreton said. "It felt like home, and the coaches made it feel that way. That was something I was looking for while visiting different schools. I've wanted to play in the SEC since I was little, and Mississippi State made that possible. The facilities and the campus were amazing. I couldn't be more excited to go somewhere I feel welcomed and around a group of girls that will one day be some of my best friends. Plus, the famous chocolate milk made my decision easier!"
Â
Moreton played travel ball with Iowa Premier National after starting her career with the Tulsa Elite as a freshman. Iowa Premier finished fifth at the Alliance Fastpitch 18U Tier 1 National Championships and third at the Alliance Fastpitch 16U Tier 1 National Championships. She was named to the All-Tournament team at both events. This summer, Iowa Premier won the ESPN TV Bracket Championship, and Moreton was invited to the 18U HFL Team 1 Summer Team.
Â
She struck out 98 batters and posted a 1.34 ERA over 104.2 innings in her freshman summer while recording a 1.469 OPS with 15 homers and 55 RBIs. Moreton followed that with 75 strikeouts in 92.2 innings as a sophomore and struck out 99 batters over 119.1 innings during her junior summer while winning 16 games and posting a 1.98 ERA.
Â
Academically, Moreton was named to Lincoln High School's honor roll every year and is a three-time NFCA High School All-American Scholar-Athlete.
Â
Mississippi State softball signed six student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 13. State's class included three players that were ranked by Extra Inning Softball as a top 15 player at their position nationally. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
