Women’s Basketball Returns To Starkville To Take On South Carolina State

STARKVILLE – For the first time in over a month, Mississippi State women's basketball will play inside Humphrey Coliseum, as the Bulldogs will take on South Carolina State on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game can be streamed live on SECN+.

Sunday's matchup marks the first time that the Bulldogs have played inside Humphrey Coliseum since a victory on November 20th against Mercer. Since then, the Bulldogs have played on the road for four neutral site games and four away games, going a combined 7-1.
Mississippi State will take on South Carolina State for just the second time in program history. Mississippi State walked away with an 85-47 victory on December 20, 2021 in Starkville the first time the two programs met.
In their two matchups last week against Louisiana-Monroe and Maryland Eastern Shore, the Bulldogs picked up two victories. Jerkaila Jordan finished with 23 points against ULM, which then marked her fifth straight 20+ point performance, the first Bulldog to do such since January 2022. In the second matchup of the week, Madina Okot picked up 26 points against UMES, a career high. Eniya Russell recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Mississippi State's defense has continued its excellent play during the early portion of the season. The Bulldog's lead the SEC in field goal percentage defense (31.4) and three-point field goal percentage defense (23.7). The squad also ranks second in the conference in opposing scoring, giving up just 52.2 points per game.
Under head coach Sam Purcell, State has won 40 of 47 non-conference games, including 19 of its last 21. In non-conference matchups inside of Humphrey Coliseum, the Bulldogs have gone 22-1 under Purcell. In the month of December in Purcell's tenure, State is 15-2.
Mississippi State is receiving 19 votes in the week eight edition of the USA Today Coaches Poll.
